What is a Mini-theme?

A Mini-theme is a selection of four resources on different topics:

1 Animation
1 Still graphic
1 Video
1 Article

Mini themes allow teachers to work on different linguistic skills, such as written and oral expression, language comprehension and grammar. Mini themes are an excellent source for creating debates or team projects for students, etc.

4 good reasons why to use Mini themes in your English class:

1. To motivate your students and gain their attention during class.
2. To encourage students in expressing their own opinion thanks to debates you can create with four multimedia resources.
3. To build a positive relationship among students while collaborating on team projects.
4. To be able to practice different linguistic skills and social language use at the same time.

What has changed?

The new image of the website will give you a better look of the educational resources or pedagogical activities we offer to help all the English teachers.

As you know, our goal is to make a teacher´s life easier and also to introduce teacher new technologies for a class. For this reason we created an advanced search with 10 filters.

This way all English teachers (CLIL or EFL) can find very quickly the exact type of a resource they need for their class. This new and quick search will give them additional information about the resource type for example: if it´s a part of a mini theme, if there is a lesson plan or website exercise created with this resource etc. With a new search all teachers can save a huge amount of time which can be dedicated to their students or different activities.

Don’t you know what galleries are? The team of Educaingles has been constantly gathering different resources selected according to a new criteria: culture, different English accents, world’s heritages, famous people, country briefs, cultures and many more. This is another unique approach to the advanced search of our resources which guaranties interest, diversity and also allows teachers to create their own mini themes.

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2” will see the boy wizard take on the evil Lord Voldemort in an epic showdown.
This film was based on the seventh and final Potter book by British author J. K. Rowling.

The film is going to be released today, July 15. The movie was directed by David Yates, who shot three of the precious seven films, including Part 1.

We invite you to discover our mini-theme about Harry Potter which includes a video, an animation, an infographic and an article. These resources are going to be amazing to use in your classroom, especially because the topic is so interesting not only for kids but for adults as well.You can create a debate, or simply talk about the history of Harry Potter.

Here is also a link to our lesson plan about Harry Potter (level A2 , advised also for CLIL  teachers, primary or elementary teachers), created for kids age 10-12, where you can practice their oral comprehension, written expression, and written comprehension. This year, there are two major events that are going to be honoured: 1st is the discovery of the HIV virus which was diagnosed for the first time 30 years ago and the 2nd is the celebration of the 6th birthday of the law ratifying same-sex marriage in Spain.

Do you know the reason why people celebrate the Gay Pride?

In order to understand, you need to go back to 1969, to the US, when homosexuals were mistreated and didn’t have the same rights as “straight” people. Gay people started to claim their rights by demonstrations in the streets of Greenwich Village. These demonstrations were the first step to obtain equality.

Ever since, people celebrate this historic event by organising the Gay Pride parade. Nowadays, it is also an interesting tourist attraction. People from all over the world will come to Madrid, Spain and celebrate.

This 3-day seminar about ICT and language learning gave the opportunity to teachers from Europe to share their experiences, ideas and also to discover different ways of how to integrate new technologies and digital skills into the teaching foreign languages.

REAL-TICE contained workshops, debates and conferences in French, Spanish, English and Portuguese.

During the workshops and activities lead by professionals in education and new technologies, the following main themes were brought to participant´s attention:

Pierre-Yves Petitgirard introduced the 4 types of digital resources: text, picture, sound and video in his presentation “ICT & Language Learning: a plurilingual reality”. He also talked about the IWB as a missing link between the language laboratory and the classroom.

In “Web 2.0: a plus for teaching and learning languages”, Giedo Custers tackled a problem of “clicktivism” and “folksnomy”. You can also find it on slideshare and every application program on go2web20.

In “Media and motivation” presentation, Michael Boiron explained the importance of getting pupils´ support and interaction for the entire duration of their training. Based on media, the class doesn´t become interactive only because of the IWB but also thanks to the pedagogy and teacher´s work.

Working as an English Teacher in Greece, she has created a daily updated blog which helps English learners with their never ending problems when it comes to using phrasal verbs!

Her blog consists of daily handmade comic strips which present a phrasal verb. Her blog intends to present phrasal verbs into a meaningful and pleasant context thanks to short and catchy drawings.

The idea came to her when she realised the need to master phrasal verbs to show a great command of the language, as English native speakers frequently use them in everyday life.

Sofia also told Educaingles “it is a major distinguishing factor between a native speaker and a non-native speaker of English” who tries to “actually avoid using phrasal verbs”.

The 2011 contest has been designed for all French learners around Spain. It has been coordinated by How To Have High Self Esteem _blank”>Educafrances, the French Embassy in Spain and the French Alliances’ network in Spain.

On the occasion of the French-speaking world’s week “Francophonie” (an international organization of politics and government with French as the mother or customary language), this national contest of French-speaking blogs was organised with the theme “Youth in movement”.

The contest intends to create a place of exchange thanks to blogs, where young learners aged 15-24 present their way of life through articles, poetry slam, tales or reports in order to direct their own daily life or a chosen specific topic.

The objectives:

- Be able to present themselves and their creativity in French language
- Know active NGOs in France and Spain
- Develop solidarity actions in collaboration with a French speaking organisation.

Because this 3rd contest together with the two previous ones were a great success, we thought it would be an amazing idea to organise one with English speaking communities. This could be a great way to practice and improve your student´s English.
